The first day of preschool....

I can't believe he's already three! I look at him and remember the tiny little baby that I held in my arms for so many long hours! I remember never wanting to sit him down or allowing anyone else to hold him! He was my little man, my first born, my baby...well today certainly marked the first day in the long line of, "Mom, I'm okay" and "bye" as he waved us away from his classroom. Don't get me wrong, I am so happy to have an independent child that doesn't cling to my leg for support but there is just a small twinge in my stomach that reminds me of that little baby that I held for so long not too long ago!

Today was his first official day of preschool and he was truly excited! He got a new Elmo backpack yesterday and we washed his Winnie the Pooh napmat that I bought on clearance last year (luckily he still likes Pooh!)! We stayed home from work this morning so that we could take him to school expecting just a twinge of needing us on his part....and I know it was harder for us to say goodbye this morning than it was for him! He walked right into his classroom, said hi to the teacher, claimed a chair, and promptly said "bye mom, bye dad", and blew us a kiss! It still amazes me how easy it is for them...or at least how easy it appears! At least he had fun today, and we took him to dinner to celebrate a great first day of school where we got to hear all about playing the hokey-pokey all morning long! At least he had fun!

What a sweet and touching story! My stepson headed off to The University of Toledo this year. He is 18, and I still remember when I started dating his Dad all those years ago....I cried when we dropped him off. A big College Freshman....and here I am boo-hooing in the parking lot! He hugged me and said he would be okay. Back to School feelings never change....from 3 to 18, its all the same! =) Enjoy these years with your son!
