Glade Sense & Spray Automatic Room Freshener Review & Giveaway!

The newly designed Glade® Sense & Spray® Automatic Freshener adds style to the household by providing a signature fragrance to complement a room’s design and ambiance. Glade® Sense & Spray® Automatic Freshener uses a built-in motion sensor to detect movement and automatically freshens the home only when needed.   It’s now available in a neutral colored vase design in two scents: Lavender & Vanilla and Hawaiian Breeze® that can be used in any room.

We love Glade scents in many varieties, so we were excited to try Lavender & Vanilla in the Sense & Srray too!  Glade has always been a part of keeping our home smelling fresh...at least as fresh as it can with two boys and a big dog!  The Sense & Spray are ideal in locations that have a hard surface without anything above it and that the kids won't play with...we put ours on our desk and it works really well.  We truly appreciate that you get a burst of fresh scent and then the unit locks out for 20 minutes before spraying again so you aren't overpowered when you're in the room.  We've used Glade Sense & Sprays in our bathrooms before too and they work really well.  A big bonus is that they come complete with batteries and it's easy to find refills when you eventually need them!

Win It!
One winner will receive a newly designed Glade Sense & Spray (company will choose the scent).  This giveaway will end on January 26th at 10:00PM Central.  I'll email the winner who will have 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen!

BuildASign.com, the perfect place for making customized signs for fun or work! Review

Why BuildASign.com™?  We loved the easy to use design tool to design our custom banner and customized street sign!  It was so much fun creating the signs.  The price listed stays the same regardless of the number of colors on your sign, so you can feel comfortable uploading your own image or changing fonts, borders, or clip art colors as you create!  I was amazed at the library of images available for use, so many that it took a long time to find the perfect pictures (each of the lines, stars, flowers, and birds is a separate image) for our Happy Birthday Banner ($47 for 3'x8', $23 for 2'x4')!

I was looking for something bright that we could use over and over again whether it was my birthday or one of my boys as a way to say, "yes, you are at the right house" since balloons inevitably pop almost as quickly as we tie them out!  Our vinyl banner was well-made, the edges were nicely finished and the grommets were well-seated so we were impressed and sure to use this banner for years to come!

In addition, BuildASign.com™ offers custom street signs made of aluminum ($17 for 5"x18")!  You customize the sign so you can opt for a popular street you would like to hang in your home or make a personalized plate for your child's bedroom decor.  Since we are decorating my son's room in fireman decor, we opted for a customized fire station street sign (his name is on his, I just opted to leave it out for the post).  The options are truly endless whether you are uploading your own image or choosing colors and images to make the signs your own!

I know I will be using BuildASign.com in the future with the tons of available options, no setup charges for artwork, and no price changes as you add colors or images to a design.  I only wish that while using their design software that you could see the fonts as you scrolled through the choices instead of needing to change what you are working on to see what you like best!

You can choose from a wide range of sizes and top quality sign materials no matter whether you are launching a business or setting up a garage sale.  BuildASign signs are offered at affordable prices, whether the order is for a single sign – or dozens or hundreds of signs.

AVEENO Nourish Hair Care - Review

When it comes to hair care products, I love trying new things since I never truly find something that suits me for long than a couple months.  With long straight blond hair that is super fine, I love trying out new volumizing hair care products.  I received AVEENO Nourish + Volumize Shampoo and Conditioner and Nourish + Style Volumizing Foam.  Typically my hair becomes pretty lifeless and flat about two to three hours after styling, so I give up and wear it straight but was pleasantly surprised to see a lot more lift at my roots with this combination of AVEENO products after just a couple uses.  My hair feels healthier and definitely has a little more bounce.  I'm definitely planning to purchase more AVEENO Nourish when it hits store shelves in February...I just hope my supply can stretch that long!

Don't worry if you need something other than volume for your hair, AVEENO Nourish Hair Care has a product made just for you too!

  • NOURISH+ SHINE Shampoo and Conditioner
  • NOURISH+ MOISTURIZE Shampoo and Conditioner
  • NOURISH+ REVITALIZE Shampoo and Conditioner
  • NOURISH+ VOLUMIZE Shampoo and Conditioner
  • NOURISH+ SOOTHE Shampoo
  • NOURISH+ Condition Leave-In Treatment

AVEENO® NOURISH+ Shampoos and Conditioners have been clinically proven to leave hair stronger, softer and with a healthy shine in just three washes  The formula, which includes the Nourishing Wheat Complex, targets and help repair damage, fortifying hair with proteins and conditioners where it needs it most.  Each use helps to increase hairs resilience against future damage, and gentle enough for color-treated hair!   AVEENO® NOURISH+ Shampoos and Conditioners were developed with a team of experts, including a leading dermatologist and hair stylist.  Products will be available February 2010 at food, drug and mass merchandisers with a suggested retail price: $6.49 - $7.49, 10.5 oz. bottle.

In addition, AVEENO has partnered with celebrity hairstylist Patrick Melville.  Patrick Melville is recognized as one of the top stylists and educators in the industry and currently serves as the AVEENO® Celebrity Hair Consultant. Having groomed the tresses of everyone from A-list celebrities, rock stars and models to beauty and fashion editors (Ashley Judd, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Demi Moore, Eva Longoria, etc) Patrick brings his hair care expertise and passion to the AVEENO® Brand. A native of England, Patrick’s career has graced the pages national magazine across the globe. Patrick’s in-depth styling experience makes him a wealth of knowledge for all things hair care related.

Patrick would like to share the following tips & tricks with you for amazing hair heading into the new year:
  • Get ready for this year by going with a look that can be worn from the office to the office party. Keep it sleek and simple with an up-do in the morning and be sure to take any accessories, pins, or hair ties you need to re-primp and jazz it up at the office. Remember less is more: adding a simple headband or jeweled-piece provides that extra layer for a perfect evening look.
  • Always prep your hairstyle with a proper wash. Remember to comb any tangles out before you wet it and use warm water to open the cuticles of the hair and to wash all the oil and dirt off. Then, you only need a dollop of shampoo to rub your hands together and apply to your scalp. Take note that you should put the shampoo on your scalp and not at the ends of your hair. Rinse your hair with cold water afterwards to close the cuticles and add to the shine of your hair. Whether you are looking for a smooth, wavy or curly style, I recommend using AVEENO® NOURISH+ Shampoos and Conditioners to keep your hair naturally beautiful for any occasion.
  • To flatten frizz on the go, dampen your hands with a finishing spray or smoothing agent like the AVEENO® NOURISH+ STYLE Shine Crème. Run hands through your hair, and then loosely pull your hair back into a bun. Wait 15 minutes and take your strands down for flawless, shiny hair in minutes.
  • When you're strapped for time do the T-zone blow-dry: dry down your part and around your hairline only. Not only will you look finished, but your hair will thank you. For best results with lasting hold all day long, use the AVEENO® NOURISH+ VOLUMIZE Shampoo and Conditioner in addition to the NOURISH+ STYLE Volumizing Foam - this combo will give you great volume and hold your style for 12 hours. (There's even a video and step-by-step instructions on the website to help you learn more!)
  • Many people make styling curly hair harder than it needs to be. Classic curls are in this season, so if you have them, rock them! To define and pump up those curls, use a conditioning leave-in treatment with a curl-defining spray to add softness and de-frizz those curls. I love to use the AVEENO® NOURISH+ STYLE Curl-Defining Spray Gel on my clients.
  • Think about giving the gift of beauty for the Holidays (or as an after holiday special surprise). Not only is it practical, but there’s no better gift than that of pampering someone you love. I recommend a gift certificate with at least one product to round it out, like: The Patrick Melville Salon Signature Blow Out with the AVEENO® NOURISH+ STYLE Shine Crème. It provides nourishment needed to keep hair healthy looking and manageable after the salon.

Lovable Labels - Label your kids things holiday gift pack! Review & Giveaway

When it comes to kid's items, it seems like everything has to be labeled and I don't know about you but I have a problem writing on everything with a permanent marker because so many times it's bled through the fabric!  Lovable Labels solves this issue with it's adorable labels so you can easily label all the items your kids need each and everyday and not worry about the wrong backpack coming home or losing that extra set of clothing you are supposed to send to the preschool because it wasn't labeled!
We received the Lovable Labels Holiday Pack - Santa's Pick and were able to personalize with the icon we wanted (train #6) and I added our last name so that I could use for either son!

This pack of labels was definitely designed with the essentials in mind. Wrapped in a pretty red foil package, the recipient will receive 15 Multi-Purpose Stickers, 40 Slimline Labels, 12 Shoe Labels, 24 Press N' Stick Clothing DOTS (6 Large, 6 Medium and 12 Small) and 2 Mini-Metal Tags (icons available for this pack are shown below).
So far, we've applied labels to lightweight jackets, winter coats, shoes, backpacks, shoes, lunch boxes, and water bottles.  We opted for the slimline sticker labels for the water bottles and they have survived at least 6 trips through the dishwasher so far without peeling or fading (definite plus in my book!)!  We haven't laundered any of the jackets yet, but with the test in the dishwasher and the sturdiness of these labels, I'm sure we won't have any problems.  My boys love these labels and are so excited to label all of their personal items!

Buy It!
Lovable Labels offers a wide selection of labels and gift packs perfect for labeling just about anything you might need!

Win It - Giveaway Details!
One winner will win the Lovable Labels Holiday Pack - Santa's Pick shown in the colors above!  The winner will get to select the name personalization and the icon that they would like on their labels (one icon for the set)!  This giveaway will end on December 22nd at 10:00PM Central.  I'll email the winner who will have 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen.

Little Star by Anthony DeStefano Review

Little Star by Anthony DeStefano is about a the story of Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ. The stars in heaven are competing as to who will shine the brightest to celebrate his birth. But when they see the poor family, the donkey, the stable, the stars don't believe he is the king. One little star does.

Little Star is beautifully illustrated by Mark Elliott on every page, and definitely a great book to read to your kids or give as a gift! My boys love the pictures and will sit looking through the book just for the pictures.  We've read this story multiple times and it's a great reminder of the real meaning of Christmas and why we're celebrating this time of year!  It would make a great gift for children this holiday season!

Cradle Rock Children's Music Review & Giveaway

I knew my kids would love hearing new music and I was excited to be able to introduce them to albums that I knew they would love and I would be able to hum along to as well!  These acoustic albums are great for little ears and you'll probably enjoy listening to each CD as well!  We received Cradle Rock's first three albums for review and can't wait to hear even more of their albums as they are released!
“Cradle Rock”, a series of children’s lullaby albums produced and created by Brash Music and Tree Top Records, hit stores and digital distribution channels October 25th. Cradle Rock uses vibraphones, glockenspiels and mellotrons to turn iconic songs and albums by top artists such as Kenny Chesney and Johnny Cash into naptime-friendly listening material.
With Cradle Rock, parents can introduce their children to some of the greatest albums ever recorded including the first ever urban album turned into lullabies, Michael Jackson’s Thriller (released 29 years ago November 30th). “Parents will appreciate that Cradle Rock keeps melodic structure and tempos in tact,” says Steve Jones, CEO of Brash Music. “Moms and dads write us saying they can sing right along to Cradle Rock while rocking baby to sleep.”
Cradle Rock albums in development include U2’s “The Joshua Sleep Tree,” Black Eyed Peas’ “Sleep-pea Hits” as well as lullaby albums inspired by Nickelback, Carrie Underwood and The Eagles.  You'll definitely enjoy the lullaby versions of your favorite songs and sharing your favorite songs with your children!

Buy It!
You can listen to snippets of each Cradle Rock album before you purchase and then buy online for $11.98!  When you purchase the CD, you'll also receive an automatic MP3 download too so you can listen immediately waiting for your CD to arrive!

One lucky reader will win their choice of one Cradle Rock CD from the three mentioned above! This giveaway is open to US addresses only and will end on December 9th at 10:30PM.  I'll email the winner who will have 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen.

Review & Giveaway: Glade Design & Shine Scented Oil Candles - CLOSED

This giveaway has ended!
Did you ever think that you could design the next candle holder that would be sold in stores nationwide?  Well now's your chance!  Glade Design & Shine is giving you the opportunity to design a decorative glass holder for their scented oil candles!  I designed mine to enter into the contest and you should too....you could win $10,000 and have your design featured in stores nationwide (talk about 15 minutes of fame)!

You'd purchase it right?  I love my design, and even if it's only computer generated I'm proud to call it my own!  I paired my design with a Lavender Vanilla scented oil candle and named it Dreamy Nights!

Glade sent me one of their new designer glass candle holders with a beautiful green and gold vine design (but the picture turned out horrible and all you see is a flash reflection) with a Lavender and Vanilla scented oil!  I've used these candles in the past and have always loved the fragrances and the clean burning style of the scented oils!  I also love that they burn themselves out after 4 hours which is priceless with two young boys at home!  The house is quickly filled with a light fragrance and the candle holder didn't get hot to the touch either!

Contest Details:
The Glade Design and Shine Contest, allows you to create your own decorative glass holder using available colors and design elements!  There will be six first place winners who will receive $750.00 prize money, and two grand prize winners who will receive $10,000.00 and their designs may be produced and sold in stores!!  (You can submit up to 10 designs per person!)  The contest ENDS on October 31, 2010 so enter now, but if you're a night owl there is less demand late in the evenings so you won't get as frustrated!!

Buy It:
Glade Decorative Glass Candle Holders are available in stores nationwide!  If you haven't seen them near you, they will be coming soon!

Review & Giveaway: Ziploc bags & containers - CLOSED

This giveaway has ended!  Thanks for entering!
I received a selection of Ziploc bags and containers just in time for sending my son back to preschool, us trying to get the house organized, and getting to the time of year when we start preparing more foods on the weekend and freezing them because it just seems that we are running out of time by the time we get home from work every night as a member of the Family Review Network!  The selection of Ziploc sandwich bags, Storage Slider Bags (freezer and regular) and Ziploc Medium Square Containers with the Smart Snap Seal have been perfect.

We have always purchased Ziploc bags in the past, but typically we purchase just the standard Ziploc bags and they just don't hold up as well in the freezer as the freezer bags we were able to review.  I was impressed that the Ziploc® Brand Slider Bags features a slider closure and an expandable bottom that opens into a flat base, so that the bag stays upright making  it easy to fill. Plus, these bags feature Ziploc's Smart Zip™ seal—so you can hear the bag close and feel confident your food is protected.  In addition to using the bags, we have repeatedly used the square containers for holding leftovers and taking our own lunches to work that need reheating.  If you've read my blog before, you know that I love products that are microwave and dishwasher safe, and these containers are both!  In addition, I like how easy it is to control portions in these containers since there are measurement lines on the sides of the container too!

Ziploc bags and containers are also great for organizing too!  We have used them for keeping the kid's finger paints in one place, and giving us the peace of mind that they won't spill.  In addition, we use Ziploc bags and containers as craft bins or busy bags/boxes on rainy days!  We fill them with a random assortment of stickers, markers, crayons, glue sticks, and pom poms, and let them decorate construction paper to their hearts content!  The slider bags are much easier for this too than standard Ziploc baggies!

Ziploc products are available in grocery, mass merchandise and drug stores nationwide with great reasonable prices and SC Johnson typically offers coupons on a regular basis too!

Ziploc Brand Sandwich Bags $1.09 - $3.49
Ziploc Brand Freezer Slider Bags - $2.19 - $3.59
Ziploc Brand Storage Slider Bags - $2.19 - $3.59
Ziploc Brand Containers with the Smart Snap Seal - $3.19

Giveaway Details:
This giveaway will end on September 27th at 10:00PM Central.  I'll email the winner who will have 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen.  One reader of Two Monkeys & a Washtub will win a Ziploc prize pack which includes:
  • Ziploc Brand sandwich bags
  • Ziploc Brand Freezer slider bags with expandable bottom and smart-zip seal (quart)
  • Ziploc Brand Storage slider bags with expandable bottom and smart-zip seal (quart)

Review & Giveaway: ToiletTree Fogless Shower Mirror - CLOSED

This giveaway has ended!  Thanks for visiting!

I recently received a Fogless Shower Mirror from ToiletTree as a member of the Family Review Network and I can honestly say that I was truly skeptical at whether or not it would hold true to it's word on remaining "fogless" in the shower since past experience has shown that shower mirrors just don't work!

Well I can honestly say that after a few weeks of use, this shower mirror has remained fog-free and shatter-proof!  Yes, in our house, the kids test everything whether we like it or not.  The mirror was thrown across the bathroom the morning it was being installed and survived the impact without any damage!  I don't recommend trying this at your house, but we were amazed it didn't break!  As I was saying, the mirror has remained fog-free in the shower and I can't wait until the colder winter months to really check it out!  Each day as the shower warms up, we fill the reservoir with water as indicated on the directions to neutralize the water and air temperature which eliminates fogging.

Although this mirror is indicated for use in the shower, I think it would be the perfect bathroom addition for those who get ready in the morning and end up wiping the fog from the mirror to put on their makeup, fix their hair, or men that shave while their wives shower. We have used the mirror not only in the shower, but outside the shower as well!  The mirror's bracket is designed to not fall off once mounted, but the mirror itself can be removed from the mounting bracket easily.

This mirror will make a perfect gift if you don't use it yourself!  You can purchase it directly from ToiletTree or at Amazon!

The wonderful people at ToiletTree have offered to send one reader a Fogless Shower Mirror of their own, so keep reading!

I received a Bulova adaptation of the Accutron Astronaut travel alarm clock from Executive Gift Shoppe for review as a member of the Family Review Network. Since I travel for work, this was the perfect opportunity to review something that was just for me! The Bulova travel alarm clock has a metal case with a chrome finish and a protected hinged cover. The watch is small enough to throw in my carry-on bag (Dimensions: H: 2.25" W: 2" D: .75") and has a protective glass lens. This is a limited edition travel alarm clock and features luminous hour markers and a beep alarm.  I do wish it had a snooze capability because I like to hit snooze at least once every morning and I haven't been able to figure out how to reset it for five minutes later, only how to turn it off!  The clock has held up well to being jostled around in my carry-on bag with my laptop and miscellaneous files and I'm looking forward to its continued use!

When I’m not traveling, I keep the clock on my desk. It has a beautiful black finish and stunning professional look and would be perfect for a man or a woman! If you aren’t in the market for travel alarm clocks, you should still visit Executive Gift Shoppe because you can find beautiful gift items for the professionals in your life, groomsmen/bridesmaid gifts, and great gifts for friends and family. Some of my favorite items include: the wide selection of photo clocks, glassware that can be personalized, and travel accessories from briefcases to passport holders!  Many items are on sale this week at 10-20% off.  Sales are listed on the top of each category page!

Book Review: How to Choose the Best Preschool For Your Child

How to Choose the Best Preschool for Your Child: The Ultimate Guide to Finding, Getting Into, and Preparing for Nursery School

As a full-time working mom, one of the more stressful times so far has been choosing the right preschool. We started small with our oldest son (almost 4) while waiting to get into the school we wanted this coming fall. He loved his small preschool and we were lucky because he had a great teacher! I was really excited when I got the opportunity to review How to Choose the Best Preschool for Your Child through Family Review Network prior to choosing a preschool for our youngest son (age 2)!

How to Choose the Best Preschool for Your Child: The Ultimate Guide to Finding, Getting Into, and Preparing for Nursery School will save you lots of online research time since it gives you insight into the popular preschool programs from child-centered to teacher-directed, breaks down the key criteria to consider when choosing a preschool, and helps you find a high-quality preschool in your area whether you are in a small town or a large city. What I liked best about this book is that it will really work whether you are in a small town or a large metropolitan area. I think if you are in a smaller town/city you are less likely to find long application forms, admissions interviews, and competitive programs that are discussed in the book but there is still plenty to assist you in understanding the preschool programs.

The book also helps you focus your attention on what's important to you as a parent and how your child will best learn in a preschool environment. I thought the book provided great insights into the process needed to navigate preschool and prepare your child for their first day. The book also includes a discussion on how to become an involved parent regardless of your time committments outside of school. If you are about to navigate the selection process for preschool, I suggest you pick up a copy of this book!
