This summer, I'm going to volunteer for a summer camp program and try to make a difference in the lives of children who don't really have role models at home.

We plan on taking several day-trips to visit state parks, museums and festivals in my state. Since money is so tight right now, it will be less expensive to do the day trips that to take an extended vacation out of state.

We love doing learning related crafts. If we read a book on flowers we'll make a flower out of card stock or color a picture of a flower. If we read a book about boats, we'll make our own "boat" out of items that can be recycled!

It's lots of fun

This summer, since I'm huge and pregnant and it's HOT, we'll be going to the free kid's movie once a week at our local theater. The kids get out of the house, we get to watch a great kids movie together, and we're going to make homemade snacks to take with us each week (our theater allows this). My 4 yr old son loves to bake, so he's going to get to help out, which may excite him more than the movie. :-)
We're also picking two nights a week where he gets to pick the menu from his kid's cookbook and make dinner for us - with my help, of course. I think I have a budding chef on my hands. :-)

Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!!

Due to lack of funds, the only thing I really have planned for this summer is a deep sea fishing trip with my dad and boyfriend. It was supposed to be for father's day, but the weather hasn't been good here so we're waiting on a nice weekend. I've never been - but it's something my dad loves - I think it'll be a fun time.

Thank you for the generous giveaway. I'm entering for the Walgreens gift card since we have one close!

Fun things we are doing this summer? For starters, I purchased a little slip and slide. I haven't been on one in years so you could probably imagine the entertainment when my children and I get ready to start sliding! I'll be singing "Slip sliding awaaaaayyyy, slip slidding awwaaaayyyy" while going down the slip in slide.

We are going to take a weekend trip to Oklahoma because, my sister is about to have her first baby! We won't be able to stay but, a couple days but, really excited about this trip! Not to mention, it will be a couple days before my daughter's birthday so we will celebrate there.

It's very hot and humid here so we try to find fun things to do that doesn't overheat my children too much but, gives them exercise.

For us, it is the little things that are fun. This week my little guys are looking forward to going strawberry picking. last week, it was "touch a truck" and the zoo....

Lets see if we can make this sound fun
We are going to walk all the way to the park! (one block). We will be packing a great lunch (peanut butter and jelly with some chips and an apple) We are going to go on some exciting rides!!! (slide and monkey bars) Then we will have a really nice picnic! (sitting on a blanket eating our lunch) and after that fun exciting day we will return home. Thank you!

VickieB Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 3:42:00 PM CDT

We've attended The first two of six weekly concerts in the park and plan on attending the rest.

It's a nice evening out. Pack up a picnic dinner and sit out on the lawn and visit before the concert begins.

We decided we like being in the bowl when the concert starts, more interaction with the band.

~ Doreen Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 3:50:00 PM CDT

Thanks for the chance to win. My son has been waiting all Spring for the lightning bugs - finally they are here! Every night we are going outside to catch them. He has a net he uses, and he and his sister wear glow necklaces and bracelets and run around in the yard having a great time! We we are done it is time for snuggling in a cool bed and reading books!

Lauren Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 4:48:00 PM CDT

Since money is really tight this summer, I've made a list of the local family-friendly free events and we're taking advantage of all we can. Our library system has story time and other events, we signed up for kids' free bowling, and are visiting the local parks and museums that have free admission!

This summer will be a little different than past summers. We will be getting my daughter ready to go to college (lots of shopping). Unfortunately with the economy what it is and my husband being self employed, we won't be doing any family vacations. I do plan on taking several trips to the Jersey shore. We always end the day with dinner at Stewarts...love the rootbeer floats, they are perfect after a day on the beach!

Hello!

What a cute blog name! I guess this summer, I am working with the local Friends of the Library to promote our library in town. We are putting up a bond issue in Feb. as our library is old and needs many updates. So I'm helping get the word out- my first task was manning a table at our local farmer's market.

Thanks!

In a couple of weeks I'm going to Panama City Beach to spend the week with 6 high school kids from my church, our new youth guy and about 800 other youth and their youth leaders (who we call ATPs, adult type people. Old and mature enough that parents trust us to take their kids across the country for a week or two but not so old nor mature that we're above starting marshmellow or shaving creme fights).
After the week on the beach, I'll come home for a week and then help to lead a group of about 20 going down to Mexico to work on building a school for deaf children.

It's not exactly everyone's idea of fun, but I'm certain I will have a blast.

Thanks for the chance to win!

The Need 2 Read Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10:49:00 PM CDT

We have less money to play around with this year than we did last year AND my husband has been away for 17 months (military), so we're saving an actual vacation for when daddy gets home. Instead, we have season passes to a local water park and children's museum - so we're spending time doing that - my son is four. We also participate in the library's summer reading program, meet a friend for the free kiddie movies each week and we planted a garden so we garden together - fun for free! :)

I have a Riding Stable and for our summer camp (we vote today), we are either doing a Michael Jackson Tribute choreographed dance with the horses (dancing on horseback and riding the horses in a pattern) to Thriller and the girls will dress like zombies and designing our own crazy costumes.

Or:

We will be doing Native American Horsemanship, stringing beads and bells for the horses to wear, we will be painting the horses and designing our own costumes. (Cutting up t-shirt and adding beads to them).

Either way it will be lots of fun!

Not to mention that we are doing the usual fun stuff like swimming, going to the park, playing in the sprinkler and making a craft each day. Oh, and did I mention DISNEY WORLD!?!?!?! Thanks!

The library program this year is Be Creative, how funny. My girls have been doing the activities there & then they usually come home inspired to create more. Plus we are spending lots of time at the beach, the park & playing outside. Oh & of course dance classes in between :)

Just a relaxing summer this year :)

If it ever stops raining, we plan on max use of our pool. My husband is taking a week of vacation each month and we hope to get the bedrooms painted and some serious yardwork.

Last summer I attended classes - then I completed my first year of teaching special education students SO this summer I am catching up on all of my household cleaning (as if that will ever happen), working on new materials for my class for the next school year, and enjoying lots of long walks with my husband and spending time with my college-age sons.

Hmmmmmmm, something fun for the summer? HMMmmmmmmmmm, does just trying to survive count? With 6 kids there's never a dull moment around here. Thankfully MOST of them are fun in any season:)

The most fun thing I'm going to do is eat a Hawaiian shaved ice every day for lunch during the entire month of August. It's too hot to eat anything else, and while it's not necessarily frugal or healthy it's good and cold so I'll make up for it the other 11 months of the year!

I don't know if this qualifies as fun or work, but this summer we are busy getting ready to go overseas as missionaries to Papua New Guinea. We are selling everything we own and having fun seeing what prices we get for things. We had a big yard sale and the children enjoyed pricing and being little salesmen!

We are looking forward to our goal and having fun while doing it!

God Bless,
Melanie

I'm going to Arizona to see my sister and her house which I have not seen since she moved there 5 years ago. It's not a quick trip from Connecticut.

A Day In The Life Saturday, July 4, 2009 at 6:06:00 AM CDT

My husband is currently unemployed so not to much spending cash. We will be spending some long weekends at the beach camping. The good thing the ocean is only an hour and a half away.

This summer I'm going to write the next great American novel; clean the entire house spotless and redo it a la Martha Stewart style; and then take a long nap in the backyard, trying not to get burnt.

Well, I've got hope for one of those three at least.

Also, this summer I have lots of plans- I have two sons aged 23 months and 9 months so the days are busy. My son will be two and my husband will be 29 so we have birthday parties, BBQs, my dad and sister in town visiting and lots of family activity during the summer! I am also committing my love of shopping and getting free things to seeing what I can collect to donate to shelters and churches (ie school supplies for needy kids, toiletrees to shelters, clothes to churches etc.)

This summer I am attempting all the sweet antics of Phineas and Ferb while they are on their summer vacation. I will be recreating the scary haunted house, painting a ginormous picture for my dad in the desert and making a ski mountain in my backyard. All while my crazy platypus is off gallivanting with a crazy evil scientist. Yes, I will take pictures.

Besides doing a lot of staycation types of things, we are taking the kids to New York in a few weeks. Can't wait to share that experience with them. Dim sum, Japanese food, Italian pies. Oh wait, that's all food!! :-)

This summer we are staying as often as work allows at the local campground. We bought our first RV and have it parked there. We go to the campground to fish, swim, listen to live bands, play bingo, sit around the bonfire, and enjoy the outdoors.
